India's dairy giant, Amul, has officially crossed the INR 1-lakh-crore turnover mark in the 2025-26 financial year. This represents an 11% growth over the previous year, further solidifying its status as the largest FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) organization in India.
According to the PrintWeek report, here are the key drivers behind this achievement:
• The Cooperative Powerhouse: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which brands its products as Amul, reported direct sales of INR 73,450-crore.
• Farmer-First Model: The organization remains owned by 3.6 million farmers who contribute milk daily. Remarkably, Amul returns 80–85% of consumer payments directly back to these dairy farmers.
• Massive Scale: Amul currently processes 31 million litres of milk every day and distributes roughly 24 billion packs of products annually across more than 50 countries.
• IT-Centric Growth: Managing Director Jayen Mehta noted that Amul operates like an IT company, utilizing AI tools (such as the assistant "Sarlaben") and shared ERP systems to streamline operations and support farmers.
• Efficient Marketing: Despite its massive reach, the brand spends less than 1% of its revenue on advertising, relying instead on the iconic "Amul Girl" topical ads and high-profile global sports sponsorships.
Looking ahead, Amul is aggressively expanding into organic foods, high-protein products, and premium chocolates, while recently launching fresh milk in the US and European markets to transform into a truly global dairy brand.
