GSD File Installation Issue - PBM100 Profibus Module

You are encountering an error in Step 7 due to the GSD file name being too long for the PBM100 Profibus module from Lamtec. Yes, you can rename the GSD file, but with caution.

Can I rename the file? Yes, you can rename the GSD file to a shorter name (e.g., PBM100.GSD). However, ensure the new name does *not* contain any special characters (only alphanumeric characters and underscores are recommended) and remains under the 8.3 filename convention (8 characters for the filename and 3 for the extension).

Does renaming change the file contents? No, simply renaming the file does *not* alter the contents of the GSD file itself. The system data within the file remains unchanged. However, ensure the renamed file is correctly associated with the hardware configuration in Step 7 after renaming.

Important Note: Before renaming, it's always a good practice to create a backup copy of the original GSD file. If you encounter further issues, you can revert to the original file.

For further assistance and to download the latest GSD files, please visit the Siemens Support Portal and search for "PBM100 GSD" or contact Lamtec support directly.
