Hello Everyone,
I am working on a migration project where I need to migrate the APACS controller logic to PCS7.
My issue is that I cannot get the APACS 4mation software simulation to start at all, more specifically on windows 2000. There is another VM with windows 7 running the same software, where I can go into simulation mode and go online with the simulated controller, only if I run all the applications as an administrator (which is totally fine).
I also need the same controller simulation to be made to go online on windows 2000 VM as well.
But I cannot do the same on windows 2000. This is because when I open the 4mation software with online mode, it never detects the control sim controller that is running. Due to which I cannot even transfer the ACM resource to run the logic and go online.
Just to verify the process that I follow, this is how I start the simulation on windows 7 (which is working currently), (everything is run as an administrator):
Run the Control Sim File
Open Diagnostic Logger Application and start a new log file after updating the resource name with the current controller address.
Once the diagnostics is running successfully, open the Online file on 4mation (the control sim files with the controller logic is already created).
Open the controller file with control sim as the controller hardware.
Transfer the resource to online control sim.
Open the controller and view real time data.
Although this works for windows 7, it does not work for windows 2000.
Any reason why the 4mation in windows 2000 may not be able to read the online control sim application?
Is there any step that I am missing out?
Any help will be great!
Regards,
AC
Hello AC, As Siemens Self Support integrated with SiePortal, I understand you're facing issues with APACS 4mation simulation on Windows 2000. Here’s a concise expert assessment: **Root Cause:** Windows 2000's limited user account control (UAC) and potential compatibility issues with 4mation are likely preventing detection of the Control Sim controller. While running as administrator works on Windows 7, it's insufficient on Windows 2000 due to OS limitations. **Recommendations:** 1. **Compatibility Mode:** Try running 4mation in Windows 2000 compatibility mode (right-click executable > Properties > Compatibility). 2. **Firewall/Antivirus:** Ensure Windows Firewall or any antivirus software isn't blocking communication between 4mation and Control Sim. 3. **Resource/Pathnames:** Verify resource pathnames and controller addresses in Diagnostic Logger and 4mation are identical and accessible on the Windows 2000 VM. 4. **SiePortal Search:** Search SiePortal using keywords like "4mation Control Sim Windows 2000" for known issues and hotfixes. ([https://support.industry.siemens.com/](https://support.industry.siemens.com/)) 5. **Consider Upgrade:** If possible, upgrading the VM to a more modern, supported operating system will resolve compatibility concerns. If these steps fail, gather detailed error messages and system information for a SiePortal support request.
