Programming Devices: Display Issue Including Site Programming device - M

Hello everybody,
I have recently had a problem with a Field PG version M, regarding the display. It seems that after a short while it shuts down. Actually, I can see the program working in the back ground, but the LCD lamp is not working. Normally, to fix it, I set the time for sleep for 1 minute (if I am not working) and when I touch the laptop it tries to restart the lamp. If that should happend before 1 minute, I have to wait then for it to "sleep" so I can start it, otherwise I just have to restart the laptop and of course, loose my work.
What can be done? Do you have any ideeas? It's a first for me.

Field PG M Display Issue - LCD Lamp Shutdown

It sounds like you're experiencing a potential power saving feature or hardware issue with the LCD backlight on your Field PG M. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

  1. Power Saving Settings: Verify the power management settings within the operating system (Windows). Ensure it's not aggressively turning off the display. Adjust settings to prevent display shutdown during activity or reduce the timeout period.
  2. Backlight Inverter: The backlight inverter provides power to the LCD lamp. A failing inverter is a common cause of this issue. This usually requires hardware repair.
  3. LCD Cable Connection: Check the connection of the LCD cable internally. A loose connection can cause intermittent backlight failures. *This requires a qualified technician.*
  4. BIOS/Firmware: Outdated BIOS or firmware can sometimes cause power management problems. Check the Siemens support website for updates specific to your Field PG M model.

SiePortal Resources:

Recommendation: Given the intermittent nature and potential for hardware failure, I recommend contacting Siemens Technical Support directly through SiePortal for a more definitive diagnosis and repair options. Avoid further disassembly unless you are a qualified technician.
